Escape the Columbia
After attempting to paint this scene in watercolor and then an oil study, I came back to the studio and painted this in a full sheet watercolor. Sometimes I have found that if someplace keeps luring me back to the same location, then there is a painting "lurking" there somewhere. The title, "Escape the Columbia" beckons me to go out further to the large body of water moving swiftly towards the ocean. A Little Drama Behind the Scenes
The “Minuet” is a dance from the 1770s and also happens to be the title of Deanne's watercolor here. This painting was accepted into national competition in 2013 with the American Watercolor Society and toured around the country that year. The dance begins: The painting arrives with a broken frame which had to be replaced before it traveled. Then, in the catalog there was a mix up with the painting and artist, and wasn’t caught until after it was published! It was too late to remedy the situation.
