The Small Farmer is the Vanishing Species

I have to qualify my Grandparents farming from the era from which they came. The Victory Garden was an important way in which families were self sustaining during World War II by having a garden from which they could depend on to get fresh vegetables, fruit and nuts as well as chicken and beef. Canning and freezing for a force of children and grandchildren resulted. We could depend on getting dried apricots for Christmas, fresh tomatoes all summer, homemade grape juice measured out meekly and Grandma's excellent home made whole wheat bread and jam. How I miss it. All this I'm reminded of as I gaze into this impressionistic portrait. artlegacyshop.com is happy to share this family treasure as a giclee.

Here in this oil painting called The Vanishing Species is Grandma and Grandpa Weed standing on their cow pasture in Finely, WA with sister Dixie and great grandchild Isaac.

Grandpa Weed passed away first on August 4th 1997. Then Grandma sold the Finely farm and moved to town. She began to decline in 2006 so mother (Deanne) closed her studio that spring to come and take care of her. Grandma Weed passed during Easter week March 17th 2008.
